Born and raised in Somerset, Lou enjoyed studying A-Level Art, yet put her creative talents aside to forge a career within a corporate environment. During a challenging period in her personal life, Lou rediscovered her creativity and has been gradually producing alluring collage artwork since April 2016.
As a Contemporary Artist, Lou's signature style developed exploring the beauty of discarded chocolate and confectionery foils. Too beautiful to bin, Lou transformed these bright, reflective wrappers into stunning, feel good works of art.
Continuing with foil collage, yet looking to use different discarded foil sources, Lou felt inspired by the dark blue, contemporary art adorned walls in Etch. (by Steven Edwards), in Hove. 'Nyekimber' was commissioned by Etch. owner, Steve Barrey and it is exclusively made using Nyetimber English Sparkling Wine bottle foils bringing to life the last blank wall space in this beautiful restaurant.
Recent experimentation with charcoal has produced beautifully raw pieces in this vulnerable medium, led to further free expression and an exploration of acrylic paints on canvas. These latest works of self expression are full of experimental colour, interesting composition and textured depth and are featured on saatchi.com/LouiseHiley.
